Landscape concepts that create a sense of place - (28 Aug 14 )

Award winning landscape architects TaylorBrammer, part of the Vista Park project team, have completed the landscape Masterplan for Vista Park. Some of TaylorBrammer’s most recognisable projects include the ANZAC Commemorative Site at Gallipoli and the Illawarra Flame House that won gold at the 2013 ‘Energy Olympics’ in China.

As part of the Vista Park landscape Masterplan distinctive signage has been developed to create a sense of place right from the initial establishment of the Vista Park community. This sense of place is achieved through establishing a hierarchy of signs with a scale appropriate for the landscape and careful choices of materials.

The major estate entry sign shown above will create a sense of arrival for the community whilst the smaller precinct signs (above right) will be used to define the three unique development precincts known as The Ridge, The Grove and The Vale that have all been designed with careful reference to their own unique distinguishing features.

Materials have been chosen for the construction of the signage that draws on the agricultural and mining heritage of the Wongawilli area. Corrugated Steel feature panelling will echo the long history of dairy farming and gabion baskets with local sandstone and large timber sleepers are influences from the nearby mines.

In addition to the signage other landscape concepts have been adopted at Vista Park to create a truly outstanding local setting such as the use of native plants and grasses, post and rail fencing and informal street tree planting to create a rural character at The Ridge, retention of the remarkable heritage listed fig tree and its incorporation into a large community park at The Grove and finally hundreds of metres of cycleways and footpaths throughout all of Vista Park to encourage connectivity amongst its future residents.
